Lights, Camera, Action!
At Creative Video Day Camp, youth bring their stories to life and star in a short film co-created with peers!
How the Movie Magic Happens!
In a two-week session, campers will work together in front of the camera and behind the scenes on a group movie. Our creative process consists of facilitating a group brainstorm where campers are encouraged to submit their movie ideas. Followed by a democratic elimination process, campers vote on the ideas and genres they want to keep and merge these ideas into an original and collaborative story-line.
Under the guidance of a group director, participants develop their characters, wardrobe and props and decide how to integrate them into the story and script. By day three, filming of the “big movie” begins and continues over the entire two-week period in-between enriching workshops, acting/drama games and outdoor activities.
Multimedia Workshops
In addition to working on the “big movie”, campers explore different creative mediums. A new workshop topic is introduced each day followed by a fun hands-on assignment.Stop-Motion
Participants work in groups to take and assemble them into short animated videos. Campers learn about visual storytelling, composition, lighting, photography, editing, framing, exposure, onion skin, green screen, frames-per-second, voice overs, sound effects, music, titles, credits, and more.
Filming and Editing
Participants work in groups to film short clips and assemble and edit them into narrative shorts. Campers learn various techniques and tools such storyboarding, framing, shot types, story telling, video editing, special effects, temporality, adding voice overs, sound effects, music, titles, credits, and more.
Photography
Participants explore the aesthetic qualities and creative possibilities of taking photos in automatic and manual mode and experiment with different camera settings and composition techniques to communicate an idea, mood, moment, sense of time, or movement to tell a story.
Outdoor Activities
We spend plenty of screen-free time outdoors in the field directly across from the camp. We have daily afternoon park visits so campers can get plenty of exercise or cool off at the splash pad.
We also facilitate weekly non video related special activities like a water balloon toss to ensure that camp is as memorable as it is fun and educational.
Film-Festival
We celebrate our campers hard work at our annual Film Festival, where all of the “big movies” are premiered. Campers get to share their ideas with an audience of their peers and experience the thrill of seeing themselves and their co-stars on the big screen. We also encourage campers to invite friends and family to share in the moment!
Our productions are proudly showcased on our YouTube channel, @CreativeVideoDayCamp, where we’ve garnered thousands of subscribers and millions of views!

This is a thank you message for the awesome experience you provided to my daughter last summer. She really enjoyed her 2 week camp experience and the movie premiere you put on was totally first class! In addition, the quality of the production was beyond our expectations. Thank you for the work that you do: Providing experiences that help kids grow, learn and discover their passions.
ISABELLE – Parent
As a mom, it was astonishing to me how practical movie making skills were for a successful transition to high school. The hands-on skills this camp teaches lead to excellence in building power-point presentations, Google meet visuals, stop-motion animations for seminars, and editing videos for on-line assignments. As well, working cooperatively in teams, a huge part of high school, is natural for film-makers. Both of my kids still love making movies but I was shocked and grateful for how practical this camp turned out to be!
NANCY LOANE – Parent
My daughter is a big fan of creative video camp, and our family is now too! Not only she learned about all the stages of filming, they actually created a very nice movie. The staff is very professional in the movie industry AND also good with kids of all ages and levels. It’s nice to see our kid falling in love with movie making. Now, when she is watching movies, she pays attention to lighting and sound effects. She surprised her teachers in school with knowledge of script writing. Whatever my plans for this summer might be, Rachel is in the camp!
LUCIE – Parent
Both of my kids loved their time at the video camp and it’s the only camp they actually like going to! They learned a lot about what goes in to making a film and have even spent time using these new skills at home to make their own movies. It was our third summer at the camp and we will definitely be back next year!
LAUREN – Parent
Both my kids loved this camp! They were already asking to go for more sessions next summer after the first day! Great staff and atmosphere.
