This camp is designed for young filmmakers who are serious about making movies.
At Creative video Teen Camp, participants will take on different roles in the film-making process to create a collaborative movie short. Using professional equipment, participants learn key aspects of film-making like script writing, cinematography, sound recording, video and sound editing as well as how to produce and direct and star in their own movies.
Teens will learn about the stages of film-making
Our series of workshops lead by experienced filmmakers will provide participants with the environment and opportunities for self expression through video production. Our curriculum challenges aspiring filmmakers in a way that won’t overwhelm beginners. Students will learn about all three stages of film-making; Pre-Production, Production and Post Production.
Pre-Production
- Script Writing: Craft an engaging collaborative story, dialogue, and a well-structured narrative.
- Producing: Managing a project from start to finish.
- Shooting Scripts: Developing shot compositions and camera angles to direct the filming process.
- Shooting Schedules: Organizing filming days based on location, time, and deadlines for smooth production.
These skills provide a solid foundation for taking a project from concept to completion.
Production
- Composition: Framing shots creatively to guide the audience’s attention and enhance storytelling.
- Lighting: Using lighting techniques to set mood.
- Cinematography: Mastering camera angles, movement, and shot types.
- Sound Recording: Capturing clear audio..
- Acting: Directing actors to deliver good performances.
- Directing: Overseeing the creative vision, guiding the cast and crew, and bringing the script to life.
These skills help students balance technical expertise with artistic vision to produce compelling short films.
Post-production
- Video Editing: Assembling footage, and applying transitions, color correction, to create a polished film.
- Sound Editing: Enhancing audio by syncing sound effects, cleaning up background noise, mixing music, that elevates the story’s emotional impact.
- Special Effects: Adding visual effects, such as overlays and green screen work, to enhance or alter footage, bringing creative ideas to life.
These skills help students refine their projects and add professional finishing touches to their films.
Film-Festival
We celebrate our campers hard work at our annual Film Festival, where all of the short films are premiered.
Campers have the opportunity to share their ideas with an audience of their peers and experience the thrill of seeing themselves and their co-stars on the big screen.
We also encourage campers to invite friends and family to share in the moment!
How is Creative Video Teen Camp different from our youth camp?
Our teen camp has a strong focus on learning the skills of the trade. In addition to having their first video production under their belt, participants will gain lots of practical experience operating professional video equipment.
Creative Video Teen Camp is a great exploratory experience for teens thinking about pursuing a career in the film industry and can strengthen their portfolio when the time comes to apply to media or communications programs in CEGEP or University. Video production skills are not only a valuable outlet for artistic expression, but also an important communication tool in today’s digital world.
Our camp has a warm and inclusive environment and provides teens the opportunity to connect with peers who share a common passion for making movies and using video as a medium for self expression and artistic experimentation.
